STAR-CCM+ is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program that we use to simulate air flow over our car to obtain an estimate of all aerodynamic forces on the car. Using STAR, we can find information of interest such as the downforce produced by each aero component of the car, drag caused by each surface, flow rate inside radiator components and such. Below, there are multiple sections going over how to use STAR in different steps of the design process. Formula Electric has access to STAR-CCM+ on most campus computers through AppsAnywhere.
