What Are Assemblies?

When designing a system of parts that come together and interact with one another in 3-D space, it can often be helpful to puzzle them together in software before beginning the manufacturing process. NX utilizes assemblies to allow one to “assemble” their parts into one cohesive system. In NX software specifically, it does this through constraints and coordinates, allowing assembly files to be relatively small. Think of it as saving the interaction between parts, rather than the parts themselves.

How to design an Assembly:

When beginning a large assembly project, it is important to plan out what will be going into the assembly. One must also consider the interaction between each component. Will they be welded, bolted, or free to move? In most cases, especially those on FE, assemblies are built using a mixture of designed parts, downloaded parts, and random hardware components. For the sake of explanation, the MASTER assembly for 2023 car will be the one referenced throughout this document.
